There are many tools claiming to solve AI reliability problems. Each solves part of the problem. None solves the whole problem.
These tools fetch documents based on semantic similarity and inject them into prompts. They help the model access relevant information.
But retrieval is fuzzy. The model can still ignore what it retrieves. And it can still hallucinate facts that are not in the documents.
RAG reduces hallucination but cannot prevent it.
These tools filter inputs and outputs. They detect toxicity, block harmful prompts, and flag hallucinations after they happen.
But detection is not prevention. By the time you catch the mistake, the action may already be taken. Guardrails also add latency and cost since they often require additional model calls.

But they still rely on the underlying models to make decisions. If the model hallucinates or goes outside its boundaries, the framework has no mechanism to stop it.

These features force the model to return valid JSON or follow a schema. They constrain the format of the response.
But format is not content. The model can still invent values, hallucinate actions, or return data that does not exist. JSON mode ensures the output is parseable. It does not ensure the output is correct.
Structured output constrains format. OOS constrains actions.

OOS does not monitor, filter, or validate after the fact. It constrains the answer space before the model responds.
The model cannot propose actions or behaviors outside what the system defines. It cannot select options outside defined boundaries.
OOS also evaluates multiple objects, roles, and interactions in parallel — something existing approaches generally do not support.
Other approaches detect when AI goes wrong. OOS prevents unintended actions before they happen.
RAG adds more documents.
Guardrails detect problems after they happen.
Agent frameworks coordinate without controlling.
JSON mode constrains format, not content.
OOS constrains the answer space so problems cannot happen in the first place.
